Rosé 2022

Main Divide Rosé bottle

Main Divide is the local name for the Southern Alps and is the backbone of the South Island, where grapes for Main Divide are exclusively sourced. Vineyards have been selected for their quality and ability to express unique regional flavours.

The Season

Average weather over flowering resulted in a balanced crop, meaning no further fruit thinning was carried out. This was followed by a cooler-than-average summer which delayed ripening. Fortunately, a warm dry autumn allowed the grapes to be left on the vines till later in the season, where they were able to achieve the desired level of ripeness.

The Harvest and Winemaking

Carefully selected grapes from a unique assemblage of complementary varieties were harvested to make this wine. The free run juice was given a small amount of skin contact to add some colour. Fermentation was carried out in stainless steel vats at a cool temperature to retain varietal purity and freshness, with the wine being bottled shortly after.

The Wine

Upon release it has a pretty salmon pink hue. The nose is soft, fragrant and full, packed with aromas of red currant, strawberry, rhubarb and grapefruit, intertwined with flecks of white peach and a touch of elderflower. In the mouth it is dry and finely textured, supported by a seam of lively and refreshing acidity. The complementary varieties ensure the wine remains fleshy and supple, while also adding aroma and structure.
